📈 How Market Pulse Picks the Top 20 Stocks Every Day

A behind-the-scenes look at our proprietary scoring engine — how we screen 96+ stocks across 10+ sectors and rank them by growth potential, analyst consensus, and technical signals.

Every morning, Market Pulse delivers a fresh Top 20 list of stocks worth watching. But how do we decide which stocks make the cut? Here's how the engine works.

The Universe — What We Screen

We track 96+ stocks across every major sector: Tech, Semiconductors, Fintech, Healthcare, Energy, Defense, AI, Quantum, Crypto, Retail, and more. Plus 21 ETFs and 15 leveraged instruments in separate tables.

Our universe isn't static. We dynamically scan market news headlines to discover trending tickers that aren't in our base list — if they meet our market cap threshold ($300M+), they get scored alongside everyone else.

The Scoring Engine — 5 Weighted Dimensions

Each stock is scored across five dimensions:

1. Analyst Consensus (35%) — We pull the latest analyst ratings from Finnhub. A stock where 80% of analysts rate "Buy" or "Strong Buy" scores higher than one with mixed ratings. Heavy Strong Buy counts (10+) get an extra boost.

2. Price Momentum (20%) — Is the stock trending up today? Stocks gaining 2%+ get a strong momentum signal. We also look at intraday direction (trading above open), gap-ups, and where the price sits relative to the daily range.

3. Earnings Catalyst (15%) — Stocks with upcoming earnings in the next two weeks get an earnings catalyst boost. Earnings season can trigger 5-15% moves in a single day.

4. Technical Signals (15%) — We analyze the stock's position within its 52-week range, momentum direction, gap patterns, and analyst-backed technical strength to generate a gauge from "Strong Sell" to "Strong Buy."

5. Sentiment (10%) — Is the stock trading above its open? Did it gap up at the start of the session? These micro-signals tell us whether buyers or sellers are in control.

Growth Estimates — Hold Period & Confidence

For each stock, we estimate a growth potential (e.g., +15% in 1-2 weeks) based on:

  • Score strength — higher scores → shorter, higher-conviction hold periods
  • Bull ratio — what % of analysts are bullish
  • EPS growth acceleration
  • Earnings catalyst proximity
  • Confidence levels (High / Medium / Low) factor in the depth of analyst coverage and fundamental metrics like ROE and PEG ratio.

    Indicator Badges

Stocks can earn badges like CANSLIM, Golden Cross, Breakout, GARP, Institutional, and Sector Leader based on specific criteria. These aren't just labels — each badge adds points to the overall score.

    Accuracy Tracking

We track every pick's performance after its hold period expires. Did the stock reach at least 50% of our predicted growth? That counts as a "hit." You can see our full track record in the Accuracy tab.
